Women's Volleyball Athletes of the Week for September 9, 2019

Offensive Player of the Week

Francie Shaffer (Plymouth State) - Junior – Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter - Frederick, Colo.
Shaffer averaged 3.08 kills/set and hit .238 in four matches for the Panthers last week. She opened the week with six kills and a .500 attack percentage in two sets as PSU swept Elmira, 3-0, in the home opener on Friday night. She followed with a 12-kill, two-block effort as the Panthers topped New England College, 3-1, in the nightcap. On Saturday, Shaffer posted seven kills and a block in just two sets against Sage before closing the week with 12 kills (.357 attack percentage) and three blocks in a 3-1 win over Rivier. It was PSU's first win over the Raiders since the 2011 season.

Defensive Player of the Week

Olivia Mathieu (Keene State) - Senior - Libero - Derry, N.H.
Mathieu repeats as Defensive Player of the Week after totaling 103 digs and averaging 6.44 digs per set in a 4-1 week for the Owls. She notched 23 digs in a 3-0 win at Clark before bringing up 22 digs in a 3-0 win over Sage. Mathieu then tallied 18 digs in a sweep of Elmira and 14 digs in a sweep of New England College for the 6-2 Owls.

Rookie of the Week

Rory McMaster (Western Connecticut) – Freshman - Setter - Canton, Mich.
McMaster repeats as Rookie of the Week after averaging 10.17 assists per set, with 61 total set ups, in a pair of 3-0 wins for the Colonials. She handed out 32 assists the sweep of Penn State-Abington before tallying 29 assists in a sweep of St. Joseph's (Long Island). WestConn is undefeated this season at 5-0.
