New England Women’s Volleyball Association Announces All-Region Awards, Senior All-Star Participants


PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) announced its 2018 All-New England Teams, which feature a pair of 2018 Little East Conference major award receipts, as well as the participants for December 2nd's Senior Classic All-Star Game and Skills Competition, which will be held at Eastern Nazarene's Lahue Physical Education Center starting at 10:30 a.m.

UMass Boston outside hitter Eileen Shi (San Francisco, Calif.) earned Third-Team All-New England honors after leading the league in five categories - kills (369), kills per set (3.97), service aces (76), points (455), points per set (4.9) - in her final collegiate season. The 2018 LEC Offensive Player of the Year was also named a First-Team All-Region selection and received All-America honors from the America Volleyball Coaches Association.

Eastern Connecticut middle hitter Anna Barry (Andover, Conn.) was named to the 2018 NEWVA All-Rookie Team after leading the conference in attack percentage (.367) and ranking in the top-10 in kills (5th, 292) and kills per set (6th, 2.83). The 2018 Little East Rookie of the Year was named the LEC Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player after leading the Warriors to their first conference title since 2007.

In addition to Shi, Eastern Connecticut middle hitter Carly Balskus (Hebron, Conn.) and Keene State libero Riley Bunker (Simi Valley, Calif.) will take part in the NEWVA Senior Classic All-Star Game and Skills Competition.
