INDIANAPOLIS, - The Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team will face regional host Johnson & Wales University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Friday, November 9, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for students with valid ID and senior citizens, and $3 for children.
The Warriors (23-6) are in the NCAA tournament for the for the first time since 2007 after winning the 2018 Little East Conference (LEC) Championship Tournament. Eastern swept Rhode Island College before posting a 3-1 championship final win over Keene State to claim the LEC's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.
The Wildcats (31-1) qualified for the NCAA tournament for the fourth straight year after winning the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament with straight set wins over Saint Joseph's (Maine) College, Suffolk University and Rivier University. Johnson & Wales is currently ranked second in the nation in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll.
The winner of the Eastern Connecticut-JWU match will face the winner of the first round match between Franklin & Marshall College (23-7) and SUNY New Paltz (26-8). The other side of the regional bracket will see opening round matches between Springfield College (23-7) and Maine Maritime Academy (22-6), and Wesleyan (Conn.) College (17-5) and Kean University (19-15).
The semifinal matches are slated for Saturday at 2:30 and 5 p.m., with the championship match taking place Sunday at 2 p.m.
