PAWTUCKET, R.I. – After posting a 7-1 record in league play during the regular season and winning a head-to-head tiebreak, Eastern Connecticut will be the top seed in this week's Little East Conference Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament. The announcement was made by the Conference following the conclusion conference action Sunday. The Warriors, who receive a first round bye, will host the Final Four November 2-3.
UMass Boston also went 7-1 in conference play and will receive a first round by as the No. 2 seed. Keene State (5-3) came out on top in a three-way tiebreak for the No. 3 seed, and will host sixth-seeded Plymouth State (3-5) in a first round match October 30. Tuesday's other first round match will see fourth-seeded Western Connecticut (5-3) host fifth-seeded Rhode Island College (5-3).
Eastern Connecticut is looking to win the LEC championship for the first time since 2007, and for the seventh time in program history. UMass Boston is the three-time defending tournament champion, and is looking to win the title for the ninth time in 10 years.
Western Connecticut has six LEC titles to its credit, the last of which was won in 2014, while Keene State (2008) and Plymouth State (2004) will attempt to win their second conference tournament final. RIC is in search of its first LEC tournament crown.
