PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Three-time defending Little East Conference (LEC) champion UMass Boston has been picked to once again win the league title, according to the results of the 2018 LEC Women's Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Beacons, who have claimed at least a share of the LEC regular season title each of the last nine years, totaled 61 points and received six of nine first place votes.
UMass Boston finished in a first place tie with Keene State College in the final 2017 LEC standings, and defeated the Owls 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 26-24) to win the conference tournament for the eighth time in nine years. Keene State was picked to finish second in 2018 by the LEC coaches after totaling 58 points and receiving two first-place votes.
Eastern Connecticut was picked to finish third in the preseason poll, totaling 48 points and accounting for the one remaining preseason vote. The Warriors tied for third last season with Plymouth State University, which picked to finish fourth this season with 40 points. The Panthers are followed by Western Connecticut State University (37 points), University of Southern Maine (31 points), Rhode Island College (20 points), UMass Dartmouth (14 points) and Castleton University (9 points.).
