DANBURY, Conn. - Two reigning Little East volleyball Athletes of the Week, Eastern Connecticut's Allie Luppi and Southern Maine's Jessica Williamson, recieved further honors on Wednesday as the ECAC recognized both as New England regional Players of the Week.
Luppi, a junior libero, picked up Libero of the Week honors after she compiled 70 total digs (5.38 digs per set) and 17 aces in a 3-1 week last week for the Warriors. She currently leads the league with 19 service aces on the season, and sits fourth in the conference with her 4.38 digs per set average.
Williamson repeated as ECAC New England Rookie of the Week as she continued to put up stellar numbers for the Huskies last week.
Playing in all five matches last week, Williamson had 74 kills and a .437 hitting percentage. Her overall hitting percentage of .392 presently leads the LEC for activity through Sunday. In addition to her hitting, Williamson also had 50 digs and served up five aces during the week.
The freshman outside hitter reached double figures for kills in all five matches, highlighted by a season-high 21 against Curry College. She also had a season-high .706 hitting percentage (13-1-17) against Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Southern Maine (8-0) added to its school record start on Tuesday with a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-17, 25-3) over Husson University. The win over Husson equaled the school record for consecutive wins (8) set in 1970 and tied in 1976.
