• McWhorter and Thompson Earn Volleyball All-America Honors

    LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Massachusetts Boston volleyball player Kate McWhorter (Bakersfield, Calif.) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball All-America Third Team, while Shannon Thompson (Moorpark, Calif.) was selected to the AVCA All-America Honorable Mention squad it was announced today by the AVCA.

  • UMass Boston Meets Westfield State In NCAA Debut

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Massachusetts Boston women's volleyball team will play Westfield State College on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament it was announced this morning during the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball selection show, broadcast on broadband via www.NCAA.com from an in-house studio at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis. The eight-team New England bracket of the tournament will be hosted in Medford, Mass. by Tufts University for the second straight year.
  • UMass Boston To Promote Cancer Awareness

    BOSTON - The University of Massachusetts Boston will promote Cancer awareness through the national "Dig Pink" campaign during its volleyball matches on Saturday, October 24. This fall, thousands of teams from around the country will be participating in the Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally. High School and College teams will be promoting Breast health education in the community as well as raising funds to help eradicate Breast Cancer.

    BOSTON - Senior outside hitter Kate McWhorter (Bakersfield, Calif.) spiked for 24 kills on the day, including the 1,000th of her career to help the University of Massachusetts Boston volleyball team to a Little East Conference sweep today at Geissler Gym on the campus of Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, Conn.. The Beacons defeated host Eastern Connecticut, 25-18, 25-11, 25-23, before beating Keene State College, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21.
  • Southern Maine Earns 1st Win Since 2006

    GORHAM, Maine – Senior outside hitter Shannon Shuttle (New Ipswich, N.H.) a match-high 11 kills, five digs and four service aces to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 3-0 win over the Pine Manor College Gators Wednesday evening in a non-conference women’s volleyball match at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine. The Huskies defeated the Gators 25-14, 25-10, 25-13. Earning their first win of the season, the Huskies also earned their first win since the 2006 season, and improve their record to 1-5. Dropping its third straight match, Pine Manor falls to 1-5 with the loss.
  • Beacons' Receive National Attention in AVCA Poll

    BOSTON – The University of Massachusetts Boston women’s volleyball team received nine votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Poll this week. The Beacons appearance in the “Others receiving votes” portion of the poll marks the first time UMass Boston volleyball has ever been recognized in such a poll. The Beacons have currently won seven straight matches to compile a 7-2 record on the season, while recording some impressive victories in the young season.

    Senior outside hitter Kate White (Plymouth, MA) finished with 11 kills, including the 1,000th of her career to help the University of Massachusetts Boston women's volleyball team over host Simmons College, 25-20, 25-13, 25-23, tonight at the Holmes Sports Center Gym in Boston, MA. The Beacons win their third straight match to improve to 3-2, while the Sharks fall to 1-4 on the season. White spiked for her third kill to give UMass Boston a 19-16 lead in the first set to become the first player in school history to reach the 1,000 mark and now has 1,008 for her career.
  • Beacons Earn Top Billing In Little East Volleyball Preseason Coaches’ Poll

    The University of Massachusetts Boston has been tabbed the favorite to capture the 2009 Little East Conference volleyball championship for the first time in program history after a vote by each of the eight conference coaches determined the annual preseason poll. The Beacons, on the strength of four first-place votes and 59 total points, overtook Keene State College by three markers for the top spot. The following three positions in the coaches’ survey were separated by just four points...
