KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Western Connecticut State University freshmen forward Kaleigh Panek (Shelton, Conn.) was named this week's NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Player of the Week by the United Soccer Coaches in recognition of her performance in leading the Colonials to the 2018 Little East Conference (LEC) tournament championship.
Panek scored three goals in WestConn's two conference tournament games, scoring one goal in a 2-0 semifinal win over Southern Maine before tallying both Colonial goals in a 2-0 title game victory over UMass Boston. For her efforts, she was named the 2018 LEC Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Just yesterday, Panek was named the 2018 LEC Rookie of the Year and a Second-Team All-Conference selection. She leads Western Connecticut and ranks in the top-five in the Little East in goals (14) and points (28).
WestConn will open the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament with a First Round match Saturday at The College of New Jersey, which gets underway at 11 a.m.
