• 2010 Little East Spring All-Academic Teams

    NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. –The Little East Conference office announced its annual Little East Spring All-Academic teams, honoring student-athletes in the sports of baseball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball, men’s tennis, and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field. To earn a spot on the all-academic teams a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3, and be a full-time member of a varsity team.

    PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Lauren Sawyer (Westbrook, Maine) scored the game-winning goal with 15 seconds left in regulation play Sunday afternoon as third-seeded Keene State College edged top-seeded Mount Holyoke College, 18-17, in the championship game of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III women’s lacrosse tournament at Plymouth State University’s Arold Field.
  • 2010 All-Little East Women's Lacrosse Teams Released

    The Little East Conference announced its annual women’s lacrosse all-conference teams and end of the season award winners this afternoon after a vote by the conference’s seven coaches. The University of Southern Maine takes home three of the five major awards including player of the year senior attack Jessica Knight (Alfred, Maine), rookie of the year goalie Samantha Kiesel (Lakeville, Mass), and coach of the year Lauren Reid. The defensive player of the year is senior midfielder Taylor MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) of Eastern Connecticut State University and Rhode Island College was tabbed as the inaugural team sportsmanship award recipient.

    Senior Jessica Knight (Alfred, Maine) scored a game-high seven goals and passed out an assist to lead the fifth-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies to their first Little East Conference title Saturday, defeating third-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University, 15-14, in the championship game.

    The third-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse team scored the first 11 goals of the match to post its sixth straight victory against Little East Conference opponents with a 20-5 win over sixth-seeded University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Tuesday in the first round of the conference playoffs at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.

    Senior Jess Knight (Alfred, Maine) and rookie Shelby Turcotte (Lewiston, Maine) combined to score 14 goals as the fifth-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the fourth-seeded Western Connecticut State University Colonials, 17-16, in a first round game of the Little East Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.

    University of Southern Maine freshman goalie Samantha Kiesel (Lakeville, Mass.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Co-Defensive Player of the Week this afternoon after backstopping the Huskies to a 2-0 mark. She shared the regional honor with Curry College’s junior goalie Maria Lynch (Billerica, Mass.).

    Keene State College junior attacker Jamie Albert (Southington, Conn.) was recently named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Co-Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Owls to a 2-0 week. Twenty-four hours earlier, she was selected as the Little East Offensive Player of the Week.

    The Keene State College women’s lacrosse team, led by junior midfielder Jamie Albert’s (Southington, Conn.) nine-point and seven goal performance, defeated the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University 20-14 on Saturday afternoon at Owl Athletic Complex in a rematch of last season’s Little East Conference Championship game. The victory for the Owl's snapped Eastern Connecticut's 21-game conference win streak, handing the Warriors their first loss since 2006.
  • Keene State Sits Atop Little East Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll

    NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Keene State College came in atop the 2010 Little East Conference women's lacrosse preseason poll, narrowly edging Eastern Connecticut State University for the distinction. In votes cast by the conference's seven head coaches, the two schools garnered three first place votes apiece. The Owls took the overall vote by a narrow six point-margin, taking 45 points to the Warriors’ 39. As defending champions of the conference from 2009, Keene State finds themselves selected as preseason favorites for the first time since the poll's inception in 2002.
