PAWTUCKET, R.I. – A pair of Little East Conference (LEC) women's basketball standouts have been named to the 2019 D3hoops.com all-Northeast Region. UMass Dartmouth senior forward Nakira Examond (New Bedford, Mass.) was named a First-Team selection, while Eastern Connecticut State University junior forward Mya Villard (Cromwell, Conn.) garnered Fourth-Team honors.
Examond was named the LEC Player of the Year for the second time in three seasons after leading the Little East in scoring (17.7 ppg), rebounding (9.9 rbg) and field goal percentage (58.9%). She led the Corsairs (22-5) to the 2019 LEC regular season title and the teams second straight berth in the conference title game.
This marked the third consecutive All-Region honor for three-time First-Team All-LEC performer, who earned First-Team honors from second time. Examond wrapped up her collegiate career as UMass Dartmouth's all-time leading scorer and rebounder with 1,675 career points and 1,035 career rebound.
Villard earned All-Region honors for the first time in her career after averaging 16 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest for the 2019 LEC tournament champion Warriors, who finished the year with a record of 19-9 following their NCAA Division III Championship Tournament appearance. Villard was named a First-Team All-Little East selection for the season consecutive season after being named the 2016-17 LEC Rookie of the Year.
