Field Athlete of the Week
Jared Louf-Woods (UMass Dartmouth) – Senior – Salem, Mass.
Louf-Woods was named LEC Field Athlete of the Week after winning the shot put (16.45m) and placing second in the weight throw (17.97m) at the UMass Boston Open to start the 2018-19 campaign. The reigning LEC Field Athlete of the Year broke his own program record and ranks No. 1 in the nation in the shot put, and ranks fourth in the nation in the weight throw.
Track Athlete of the Week
George Papoulis (UMass Dartmouth) – Junior – Haverhill, Mass.
Papoulis was named the LEC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 1,000-meter at the UMass Boston Open to kick off the 2018-19 season, setting a meet record with his time of 2:30.99.
Rookie Field Athlete of the Week
Caleb Steever (Keene State) – Freshman – Hinsdale, N.H.
Steever was named LEC Rookie Field Athlete of the Week after recording pair of top-two finishes at the Smith College Winter Classic to start his collegiate career. He tied for first in the high jump after clearing 1.95 meters and was second in the triple jump with his leap of 12.65 meters. The freshman is tied for 10th in the Division III in the high jump.
Rookie Track Athlete of the Week
Ryan Escoda (Eastern Connecticut) – Freshman – Newtown, Conn.
Escoda was named the LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 3,000-meter with his time of 8:52.94 and placing fourth in the mile with his time of 4:32.16 at the UMass Boston Open to start his collegiate indoor track & field career. His 3,000-meter time ranks 14th in the nation, while his mile time ranks 25th in DIII.
Relay of the Week
UMass Dartmouth – 4x400 Relay
The UMass Dartmouth 4x400 quartet of Papoulis, senior Mike Tierney (Norton, Mass.), junior Delpiero Beaumont (Dorchester, Mass.) and sophomore Moisse Irizarry (Peabody, Mass.) posted a fifth-place time of 3:33.67 to open the season at the UMass Boston Open Saturday.
