PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Thursday the 2019 NABC Coaches' Division III All-America teams, which includes Keene State College senior Ty Nichols (Springfield, Mass.). He earned Second Team All-America honors after being named a First Team NABC All-District selection earlier this week.
Nichols is the third Owl to earn All-America recognition from the NABC, and the 17th from the Little East Conference (LEC). This year's D3hoops.com All-America squad will be announced Saturday as part of their NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Final coverage. The senior forward was named the 2018-19 D3hoops.com Northeast Region Player of the Year in addition to earning First Team All-Region accolades.
Nichols was named the 2019 LEC Player of Year for his outstanding senior campaign, which saw him lead the Owls to the 2019 LEC regular season and tournament championships He averaged 27.4 points per game in his final collegiate season, which ranks him third nationally, while becoming Keene State's all-time leading scorer (2,316 career points) and single-season scoring leader (768 points). Nichols was named the 2019 LEC Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player after pouring in a game-high 37 points in the title game.
The Springfield, Massachusetts native has been named one of the 20 participants that will take part in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2019 Reese's® Division III College All-Star Game, which will be played as part of the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It tips off at 4:30 p.m., prior to the NCAA Division III championship game, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
