INDIANAPOLIS – The Eastern Connecticut and Keene State men's basketball teams are ranked in the top-10 in the Northeast according to the first NCAA Division III Regional Rankings of the 2017-18 season that were released Wednesday. The Warriors are ranked third, while the Owls are ranked sixth.
Eastern Connecticut is currently 19-2 this season, which includes an 18-2 in-region record and a 10-0 mark in the Little East Conference (LEC), and is ranked 10th in this week's D3hoops.com Poll. The Warriors ran their winning streak to 10 games after defeating Trinity (Conn.) College, 72-56, and UMass Boston, 84-70.
Keene State is currently 15-6 for the season, going 14-5 in-region and 9-1 in conference play. The Owls were 1-1 this past week, dropping an 84-78 decision to Middlebury College before cruising to a 77-49 LEC win over Rhode Island College. They have won four of their last five games and seven of their last nine, and are among the teams receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com Poll.
Eastern Connecticut and Keene State will square off for the second time this season Thursday night at East Conn, which was a 70-64 winner over the Owls January 17 in Keene. The Warriors will wrap up the week Saturday at UMass Dartmouth (11-10, 4-6 LEC), while the Owls will host Western Connecticut State University (15-6, 9-1 LEC) Saturday.
