INDIANAPOLIS – Keene State College will host a NCAA Division III Championship Tournament First Round match against SUNY New Paltz Wednesday, November 7, it was announced by the NCAA office Sunday night. The start time has yet to be determined.
The Owls (17-6) were one of the 17 automatic qualifier recipients after winning the 2018 Little East Conference (LEC) tournament Saturday with a 2-1 victory over top-seeded Castleton. IT was the sixth consecutive LEC title win for Keene State, and the 14th LEC tournament championship win in program history.
The Hawks (12-7) also made the NCAA tournament as an automatic qualifier after winning the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament with a 2-1 overtime victory over SUNY Cortland, marking the program's fifth conference title win. New Paltz is appearing in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2015.
The winner will advance to face defending national champion and 2018 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) champion Middlebury College (17-1) November 10. The Panther are currently the No. 1 ranked team in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Poll.
The national semifinals and final will be contested November 17-18 at Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim, Pennsylvania. Semifinal matches will be played at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Eastern time, Saturday, Nov. 17, with the championship game being played at 1 p.m. Eastern time, Sunday, November 18.
