PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Castleton University, which is in its first year of Little East Conference (LEC) membership, will be the top overall seed in next week's LEC Field Hockey Championship Tournament after going 11-1 in league play during the regular season. The Spartans defeated Keene State in their final regular season game to earn their first LEC regular season championship in any sport, and will host one of four quarterfinal matches October 30th against eighth-seeded Eastern Connecticut (5-7).
The Owls (10-2) will be the No. 2 seed next week and will host seventh-seeded Bridgewater State (6-6), while Southern Maine (9-3) came out on top of the three-way tiebreak to secure the No. 3 seed and will host sixth-seeded Fitchburg State (7-5). The final quarterfinal match will feature fourth-seeded Worcester State (9-3) hosting fifth-seeded Western Connecticut (9-3).
Keene State is the five-time defending LEC champion and will be in search of its league-record 14th tournament title, while Southern Maine is in search of its first conference crown since winning its first and only tournament championship in 2003.
