Little East Conference Announces 2019 Baseball All-Conference Awards

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - The 2019 Little East Conference (LEC) Baseball all-conference teams and major awards were announced Tuesday following a vote of the league's head coaches. Plymouth State senior outfielder Josh Goulet (Nashua, N.H.) was named the Player of the Year, while Eastern Connecticut freshman catcher Matt Malcom (East Lyme, Conn.) was named Rookie of the Year. Southern Maine junior Ben Lambert (Saco, Maine) was named the Pitcher of the year, while Huskies' bench boss Ed Flaherty was named Coach of the Year.

Goulet became the first-ever Plymouth State player to be named to the Little East Player of the Year after leading the league in home runs (13), RBI (47), fielding percentage (1.000) and slugging percentage (.806), while ranking second in runs (47), doubles (16), total bases (116), and third in on-base percentage (.492) and stolen bases (24). The senior ranks in the top-15 in Division III in homers (seventh), slugging (fifth) and total bases (13th).

Lambert became the seventh Southern Maine player to be named the LEC Pitcher of the Year. He is 9-0 in his 10 appearances this season, posting a 1.14 ERA and 62 strikeouts over his 63 innings. He leads the conference in wins and ERA, and is fifth in strikeouts.

Malcom was elected Rookie of the Year after batting .360 and slugging .619 while totaling 50 hits, 14 doubles, six homer 29 RBI and 43 runs scored, and posting a .984 fielding percentage in his 316 total chances behind the plate. He ranks fifth in the league in double, runs and slugging percentage, and sixth in home runs. Malcom is the sixth Warrior to be named the LEC Rookie of the Year. The junior ranks seventh in the nation in ERA and is tied for ninth in victories.

Flaherty was named Little East Coach of the Year for an LEC-record 10th time after guiding the Huskies to an overall record of 34-7 and the 2019 LEC regular season title with a league mark of 14-2. His 1,038 victories are the fifth-most in Division III history.
