PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The University of Southern Maine baseball team is ranked No. 3 in the nation for the second consecutive week in national polls conducted by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)/D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper (CBN). UMass Boston is listed among the teams receiving votes in in the NCBWA/D3baseball.com Poll for the second straight week.
Southern Maine started the month of April with a 7-0 conference setback to UMass Dartmouth before rattling off four straight wins to cap the week. The Huskies swept both ends of a conference twin bill at Eastern Connecticut (5-0, 4-3) while recording non-conference wins over Bowdoin (6-4) and Nichols (14-2), improving their record at the time to 16-3 overall and 6-1 in the LEC.
In addition to the national polls, Southern Maine continues to be ranked No. 1 in region by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA).
UMass Boston's went 2-2 last week, placing the Beacons' at 11-8 overall and 3-2 in the Little East. The Beacons split a weekend conference doubleheader with Plymouth State, winning game-two 4-2 after dropping the opener 4-2. In non-conference action, UMass Boston defeated Endicott 3-1 in 10-innings before dropping a 10-6 decision to Mitchell.
