Castleton’s Mikell Named DIII Player of the Week by NCBWA

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Castleton University junior first baseman Davis Mikell (Williston, Vt.) picked another national award this week, being named the NCAA Division III Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the week ending March 10, 2019.

The three-time Little East Conference (LEC) Player of the Week reached base in each of his 11 plate appearances in a doubleheader sweep of Bard, going a perfect 7-for-7 with five extra-base hits, slugging 2.000, scoring eight runs and driving in four for visiting Spartans. He was 5-for-5 with two doubles, one triple, four runs scored and two RBI in Castleton's 13-4 game-one win before going 2-for-2 with one double and one triple while drawing three free passes, scoring four runs and driving in a pair of runners in the 13-7 game-two triumph.

Mikell, who was additionally named to this week's D3baseball.com Team of the Week, currently leads the LEC in batting average (.600), hits (18), doubles (4) and triples (2), and is second in runs (11) and runs batted in (11).
