PAWTUCKET, R.I. – A pair of Little East Conference (LEC) baseball standouts earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for the week-ending March 10, 2019 in Castleton University first baseman Davis Mikell (Williston, Vt.) and Plymouth State University senior outfielder Josh Goulet (Nashua, N.H.).
Mikell was named LEC Player of the Week for the third time in as many weeks after reaching base in each of his 11 plate appearances in a doubleheader sweep of Bard, going a perfect 7-for-7 with five extra-base hits, slugging 2.000, scoring eight runs and driving in four for visiting Spartans. The junior was 5-for-5 with two doubles, one triple, four runs scored and two RBI in Castleton's 13-4 game-one win before going 2-for-2 with one double and one triple while drawing three free passes, scoring four runs and driving in a pair of runners in the 13-7 game-two triumph.
Goulet posted a .500 batting average (7-14) while slugging 1.571 through the Panthers' first three games of 2019, leading them to a 2-1 week. All seven hits went for extra bases as the senior legged out three doubles and launched four home runs. On Saturday, the senior tied a program record by blasting three homers and adding a double as he went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and five RBI in a wild 11-10 win over Rockford University. Goulet led the Panthers with seven runs scored and nine RBI on the week.
The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll. It recognizes the top performers at each position from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information and athletics communications offices.
