PAWTUCKET, R.I. – For the first time in program history, the UMass Boston baseball program is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association/D3baseball.com Poll. The Beacons are one of two Little East Conference programs in the top-10 this week, the other being No. 10 University of Southern Maine.
UMass Boston, which was ranked third in the country last week, was victorious in its 2018 season-opener over Lasell College by a final score of 20-1 in its only contest last week. The Beacons got this week off to a good start, posting a 4-1 win over Brandeis University, and will next host Massachusetts Institute of Technology later today, March 6.
The Huskies, who were ranked 15th in the preseason poll and No. 11 last week, have moved up five places prior to playing their first game of the season. Southern Maine's season-opener is scheduled for Saturday afternoon against Wisconsin-La Crosse, which will kick off its six-game spring break trip to Florida.
