Southern Maine Claims LEC Men’s Cross Country Championship

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The University of Southern Maine's men's cross country team won the Little East Conference Championship on the campus of UMass Dartmouth with their best five runners finishing inside the top-12 with a total time of 2:11:46.59 (26:21.32 average). The Huskies claimed its first championship since 2011.

Sophomore Sam Brunnette from Plymouth State took home the individual championship, winning the 8K race with a time of 25:12.31, averaging 5:04.3 per mile. Brunnette time places him sixth all-time in Little East Conference history. Keene State alum Mark Miller holds the record with 24:00.0, which he set in 2001.

The top-10 finishers earned All-LEC honors with Southern Maine and UMass Dartmouth receiving three All-LEC honors each. The Corsairs' Michael Vaz crossed the finish line eight seconds behind Brunnette with a time of 25:20.30. Vaz's teammates Jason Karakaedos (25:58.13) and Sean Herlihy (26:21.89) finished eighth and ninth, respectively. UMass Dartmouth finished third in the team championship standings with an average time of 26:25.84.

Warren Bartlett from Plymouth State placed third with a time of 25:29.64, followed by Keene State's top finisher, Philip Parent. Parent finished fourth with a time of 25:29.64. Parent's teammate Iid Siekh-Yusuf finished sixth with a time of 25:51.34. The Owls finished second in the team championship standings with an average time of 26:29.97.

Freshman Nick Harriman was the top finisher for the champion Southern Maine Huskies and fifth overall with a time of 25:42.78. Joining Harriman inside the top-10 were Michael Aboud (25:55.34) and Ben Foster (26:40.93).

Rounding out the remaining team standings were Plymouth State placing fourth with an average time of 27:25.39, Eastern Connecticut State (27:41.69) and UMass Boston (28:22.24).
