Wiley Advances To 400-Meter Hurdle Finals
CLAREMONT, Calif. -- University of Southern
Maine freshman Hannah Wiley (Arundel, Maine) advanced to the finals
of the 400-meter hurdle event this afternoon at the 2012 NCAA
Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field
Championships on the campus of Claremont McKenna-Harvey
Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
Wiley won her 400-meter hurdles heat race with a time of 1 minute,
1.58 seconds to advance to the finals on Saturday (3:55 p.m. PST).
Her time was the sixth quickest among the 22 competitors in the
field.
Competing in the long jump final on Thursday, Wiley set the school
record with her mark of 5.71 meters (18-9) on her second attempt.
She broke her previous record of 5.69 meters (18-8) set May 4 at
the New England Division III Championships. Wiley finished 10th
overall, and had the best finish among the five freshmen in the
field. Senior Skye Morrison of Wartburg College won the event with
a leap of 6.26 meters (20-6 1/2).
