Little East Women's Outdoor Track and Field Report #5
Track Athlete of
the Week
Gabby Cyr (Fort Kent, Maine), Senior, University of Southern
Maine
Cyr was a double winner at the Little East Championships, capturing
the 1500 meters (4:51.17) and the 5,000 meters (20:03.41) to help
Southern Maine win its 10th straight conference team title. In the
Alliance scoring, she won the 1500 and placed second in the 5000.
Co-Field
Athletes of the Week
Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, R.I.), Senior, Rhode Island
College
Fleming was the New England Alliance Champion in the high jump
(1.70m-new program record), the 800m (2:22.21) and as part of the
4x400m relay (4:12.03). She also earned New England Alliance honors
in the long jump, placing sixth (4.82m).
Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, Mass.), Senior, Keene State
College
Hirsh earned a return trip to the NCAA Championship after winning
the javelin event at the Little East Alliance Outdoor Track and
Field Championships with a school record and automatic NCAA
qualifying throw of 147'-10". Hirsh earned All-America in the event
last year with her fourth place performance.
Rookie Field
Athlete of the Week
Hannah Patterson (Londonderry, N.H.), Freshman, University
of Southern Maine
The first-year thrower placed in three events, including one first
place result, to help Southern Maine win its 10th consecutive
Little East title. Patterson won the discus with a throw of 37.49
meters (123-0), placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 10.61
meters (34-9 3/4), and fifth in the hammer throw with a heave of
35.08 meters (115-1). She was the Alliance winner in the discus and
fifth in the shot.
