Anchorwomen Capture Coast Guard Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Rhode Island College
women’s outdoor track and field team captured the Coast Guard
Invitational title with 135 points, outdistancing second place
Westfield State by 30 points. Thirteen teams took part in the
meet.
Sophomore Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, R.I.) placed
first in the 100m hurdles (16.81), second in both the 400m hurdles
(1:09.48) and the 4x400m relay (4:17.51) and fifth as part of the
4x100m relay (53.70).
Senior Kayla Fleming (Pawtucket, R.I.) established
a new program record in the high jump with a first place,
1.68m-effort. She also placed first in the long jump (4.60m),
second in the 4x400m relay (4:17.51) and fifth in the 800m
(2:27.82).
Freshman Kim Mangum (Warwick, R.I.) placed first
in the triple jump (10.61m), second in both the long jump (4.55m)
and the 4x400m relay (4:17.51), fifth as part of the 4x100m relay
(53.70) and 19th in the 200m (29.00).
Senior Ashley Nyzio (Pawtucket, R.I.) placed first
in the javelin (37.81m), while classmate Mary Ellen Horsman
(Barrington, R.I.) finished on top in the hammer
(42.44m).
Junior Stephanie Bucci (Smithfield, R.I.) placed
second in the hammer (41.00m), fourth in the shot (9.66m) and sixth
in the discus (30.33m).
Junior Brooke Iby (Dracut, Mass.) tied for second
in the triple jump (10.46m), was second in the 4x400m relay
(4:17.51), fifth as part of the 4x100m relay (53.70) and in the
400m (1:02.95).
Sophomore Jamie Nunes (Lincoln, R.I.) placed
second in the 100m hurdles (16.98).
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the
Wesleyan Invitational on Apr. 11.
