Bridgewater State College captures Little East Conference Women's Tennis Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— Bridgewater State
captured the 2007 Little East Conference Women’s Tennis
Championship on Sunday afternoon at Rhode Island College. The
Bears, who will advance to the NCAA Div. III Women’s Tennis
Championships this spring, finished with 20.0 points, four ahead of
the second place Anchorwomen.
Bridgewater State captured four singles and one doubles
championship, while the Anchorwomen took one singles and two
doubles titles. Salem State won at No. 1 singles to round out the
winners.
Top-seeded Salem State sophomore Megan Cote (Milton,
Mass.) defeated sixth-seeded UMass Boston senior
Aurora Lormeus (Milton, Mass.), 7-6, 7-1, to
capture the Little East Championship at No. 1 singles.
Top-seeded Bridgewater State senior Angie Bizzozero
(Norwell, Mass.) defeated second-seeded Plymouth State
junior Meghan Rodier (Francestown, N.H.), 6-3,
6-0, to capture the Little East Championship at No. 2 singles.
Top-seeded Rhode Island College freshman Liz
O’Connell (Harrisville, R.I.) defeated second-seeded
UMass Dartmouth junior Becky Bullock (Wrentham,
Mass.), 6-1, 6-3, to capture the Little East Championship
at No. 3 singles.
Top-seeded Bridgewater State sophomore Paulina Ucher
(Webster, Mass.) defeated third-seeded Western Connecticut
junior Susan Kiselak (Danbury, Conn.), 6-3, 6-1,
to capture the Little East Championship at No. 4 singles.
Top-seeded Bridgewater State senior Alison Tripp (South
Dennis, Mass.) defeated second-seeded Rhode Island College
sophomore Jaclyn Eastman (Mansfield, Mass.), 6-2,
6-1, to capture the Little East Championship at No. 5 singles.
Second-seeded Bridgewater State freshman Danielle Linscott
(Uxbridge, Mass.) upset top-seeded UMass Dartmouth senior
Nicole Cross (Dunstable, Mass.), 6-4, 6-2, to
capture the Little East Championship at No. 6 singles.
Earlier in the day, the top-seeded tandem of Rhode Island College
junior Meg Funk (Oakdale, Conn.) and senior
Sasha Doonan Rodriguez (Pawtucket, R.I.) defeated
the second-seeded pair of UMass Boston senior Lormeus and
sophomore Emily Johnson (Saugus, Mass.), 9-8 (2),
to capture their second consecutive Little East Championship at No.
1 doubles.
The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles championships were played yesterday
afternoon.
The third-seeded tandem of Bridgewater State freshman
Rachel Elman (Dighton, Mass.) and sophomore Ucher
captured the Little East Championship at No. 2 doubles, defeating
fourth-seeded UMass Dartmouth freshman Alexi Fiorta (Reading, MA)
and freshman Amber Ubertini (Dalton, MA), 8-2.
The top-seeded pair of Rhode Island College of Eastman and
freshman Brittany LaBarre (Greenville, R.I.)
captured Little East Championship at No. 3 doubles, defeating
second-seeded Bridgewater State seniors Tripp and
Paula Araujo (Fall River, Mass.), 8-4.
