PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Rhode Island College will be the No. 1 seed in this week's conference championship tournament after wrapping up an undefeated regular season with a 6-2 conference victory over Worcester State University Sunday to close out the regular season. The Anchorwomen won the LEC regular season title for the third year in a row, and seek their first tournament championship since 2005.
Rhode Island College will have a first round bye, as will second-seeded UMass Dartmouth. The Corsairs tied for second in the final conference standings with defending LEC tournament champion Bridgewater State University, and won the tie-break thanks to a 5-4 win over the Bears September 26.
Bridgewater State is seeded third, and will take on sixth-seeded UMass Boston in the first round Tuesday. Tuesday's other first round game will feature fourth-seeded Plymouth State University and fifth-seeded Worcester State.
The winner of the LEC Championship Tournament will receive the conference's automatic berth in May's NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
