2011 Little East Women's Tennis Championship Format Changed Due To Inclement Weather

NOTICE: Due to the inclement weather in the Southern New England Region, the Little East Conference office has announced a change in the 2011 Women's Tennis Championship format. The semifinals will be moved to Saturday, October 22 at Bridgewater State and Salem State, respectively. The championship match has tentatively been scheduled for Saturday, October 29 at the site of the highest remaining seed.

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. –Bridgewater State University has captured the top seed in the 2011 Little East Women's Tennis Championship. The Bears secured the No. 1 seed by virtue of defeating Salem State University this past weekend to complete the regular season undefeated. The Lady Vikings earned the second seed in the six-team, single elimination tournament.

Plymouth State University, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and University of Southern Maine completed the season in a three-way tie for third place. The Panthers won the tie-breaker based on their record against the Corsairs and Huskies. University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Southern Maine received the fourth and fifth seed, while the University of Massachusetts Boston earned the sixth and final seed.

The Little East will host two first round contests on Tuesday, October 18. UMass Boston will travel to Plymouth State, while Southern Maine will visit UMass Dartmouth. The winner of the match between the Beacons and Panthers will square off against Salem State, while the winner of the match between the Corsairs and Huskies will travel to Bridgewater State University. The semifinal round is scheduled for Saturday, October 22. The championship match will be at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, October 29.

Initially formed in 1986 as a six-team men's and women's basketball conference, the Little East Conference has since grown to its present eight-school membership, sponsoring championship play in 19 intercollegiate athletics: baseball; men's and women's basketball; men's and women's cross country; field hockey; men's and women's lacrosse; men's and women's soccer; softball; women's swimming; men's and women's tennis; men's and women's indoor track; men's and women's outdoor track and women's volleyball.
