Corsairs Host Little East Women's Tennis Tournament

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth will host the 2008 Little East Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament as each of the top-four seeds won their quarterfinal round match this afternoon. The Corsairs earned the right to host the semifinal and championship rounds of the tournament fray with the highest conference record, 7-0, in the circuit.   

UMass Dartmouth will square off against fourth-seeded Western Connecticut State University, while second-seeded Bridgewater State College will battle third-seeded Rhode Island College in the other semifinal match on Oct. 18. The two winners advance to the championship match the following afternoon at 1 p.m. with the victor earning the automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament field.   

For the first time since the inception of women's tennis as a conference sponsored sport in 1994, the Little East Conference will feature a team championship tournament instead of the flight format. The eight-team tournament field will mirror the national tournament structure with the first team to earn five points will be declared the winner and advance to the next round. In team championship play, the match will begin with the three doubles games (eight-game Pro set) followed by the singles rounds (best 2-of-3). The winner of each match will receive one point towards the overall team score.
