Plymouth State Earns 3 IWLCA All-Region Honors
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three of the all-stars
on the Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team received
regional recognition Friday for their outstanding play during the
2012 season. Junior midfielder Caitlin Swanson, sophomore goalie
Lorin Field, and freshman attack woman Meghan McNabb were named
Pilgrim Region Second Team All-Stars by the Intercollegiate Women's
Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Swanson is an All-Region
selection for the second straight season while the other two are
first-time All-Region honorees.
Swanson had another outstanding season for the Panthers, earning
Little East Conference Midfielder of the Year and First Team
All-LEC honors. She was one of the top scorers in the conference
with 39 goals, eight assists and 47 points, and she also
contributed outstanding two-way play in the midfield with 46 draw
controls and 34 ground balls. Swanson has scored 84 goals with 20
assists over the past two seasons, with 72 draw controls and 59
ground balls.
Field was the backbone of the LEC's top-ranked defense and was
named LEC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-LEC. She
led the conference in save percentage (.535) and goals against
average (8.05), ranking ninth in the NCAA Division III in save
percentage and 17th in goals against average. Field, who posted a
record of 13-2 with 13 straight victories, recorded double-digit
saves in six games this spring, including four straight LEC
contests late in the season.
McNabb enjoyed a terrific first year in a Panther uniform, earning
LEC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-LEC honors. She was a key
player in the PSU offense that led the LEC and ranked sixth in the
NCAA Division III in scoring offense (16.7 goals per game). McNabb
recorded 41 goals and 44 assists for 85 points, leading the
conference in assists and points per game and ranking seventh
nationally in assists and 17th in points. She blew away the
previous PSU single-season record for assists (32), and her 85
points is the fourth-highest single-season total in school
history.
These three were among the key players that helped PSU to their
second LEC regular season title in three years as the Panthers went
undefeated in conference play (6-0). After the season-opening
non-conference loss at Springfield, the Panthers to 13 straight
victories before being upset by Western Connecticut in the
semifinals of the LEC Tournament.
PSU has had several All-Region selections in the past decade. This
year's group joins Kalie Judd, who was a Second Team choice in
2010, Kelsey MacDonald and Nicole Evans, who were Second Team
selections in 2006 and Katie Sheridan, who was a three-time
All-Region choice from 2002-04.
The complete All-Region Team is available on the IWLCA website.
