LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Massachusetts Boston volleyball player Kate McWhorter (Bakersfield, Calif.) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball All-America Third Team, while Shannon Thompson (Moorpark, Calif.) was selected to the AVCA All-America Honorable Mention squad it was announced today by the AVCA.

UMass Boston senior outside hitter Kate McWhorter and Plymouth State University senior middle hitter Eliza Badeau shared the offensive player of the year award this afternoon, when the 2009 Little East volleyball all-conference teams were announced. Western Connecticut sophomore defensive specialist Kelley Collins was selected as the defensive player of the year, while Beacons’ freshman middle hitter Shannon Thompson was named the rookie of the year. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Massachusetts Boston women's volleyball team will play Westfield State College on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament it was announced this morning during the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball selection show, broadcast on broadband via www.NCAA.com from an in-house studio at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis. The eight-team New England bracket of the tournament will be hosted in Medford, Mass. by Tufts University for the second straight year.
