Men’s Cross Country

Male Runner of the Week
Tyler Jasud (Rumford, Maine), Junior, University of Southern Maine

Jasud captured the individual titles at the New England Alliance/Little East Conference Championships at Stanley Park this past weekend. The Rumford, Maine product covered the 8-kilometer course in a time of 25 minutes and 41.87 seconds to become the third straight Huskies runner to win the conference championship over the past two seasons. Jasud defeated the 152-person field in the alliance meet, and 77-person Little East field. Southern Maine finished second in the Little East team standings.

Male Rookie of the Week
Alex Gomes (Peabody, Mass.), Freshman, University of Southern Maine


Gomes was the first rookie to cross the finish line at the New England Alliance/Little East Conference Championships at Stanley Park this past weekend. The native of Peabody, Mass. placed second in the individual standings with a time of 25 minutes and 44.79 seconds on the 8-kilometer course.

Women’s Cross Country

Female Runner of the Week
Rita Marcotte (Heath, Mass.), Junior, Keene State College


Marcotte overpowered the 53-person field at the Little East Conference Championships this past weekend. The product of Heath, Mass. was the lone student-athlete to complete the 5-kilometer course under 19 minutes, clocking in at 18 minutes and 34.64 seconds. She was nearly 28 seconds faster than her closest competitor. Marcotte also finished second in the New England Alliance Championships. Keene State College won both races with a meet-low score of 18 points.

Female Rookie of the Week
Heather Pierce (Buckland, Mass.), Freshman, Keene State College


Pierce helped Keene State College win its ninth consecutive Little East Conference Championship this past weekend at Stanley Park. The rookie from Buckland, Mass. edged out a Southern Maine runner for second place with a time of 19 minutes and 2.18 seconds. The Owls posted five of the top-six times.
