Male Runner of
the Week
Tyler Jasud (Rumford, Maine), Junior, University of
Southern Maine
Jasud won the State of Maine Men's Cross Country Championship
Saturday, finishing first among a field of 128 runners. He covered
the 8,000-meter Twin Brook (Cumberland, Maine) Complex course-site
of the 2003 and 2004 NCAA regional championships-in 25 minutes and
47.82 seconds, marking one of the fastest times ever recorded on
the course. Southern Maine finished second among the 10 teams
competing, just eight points behind Bowdoin College (34-42).
Male Rookie of
the Week
Alex Gomes (Peabody, Mass.), Freshman, University of
Southern Maine
Gomes helped Southern Maine finish second among the 10 teams
competing at the 2008 State of Maine Men's Cross Country
Championships. The freshman finished eighth overall covering the
8,000-meter Twin Brook (Cumberland, Maine) Complex course in 20
minutes and 26.20 seconds. Gomes was the highest placing freshman
in the field of 128 runners.
Female Cross Country
Female Runner of
the Week
Gabby Cyr (Fort Kent, Maine), Senior, University of
Southern Maine
Cyr led Southern Maine to a fourth place finish at the State of
Maine Women's Cross Country Championship. Cyr placed eighth among
the 115 runners, covering the 5,000-meter Twin Brook (Cumberland,
Maine) Complex course in 19 minutes, 19.95 seconds.
Female Rookie of
the Week
Courtney Testa (Hopkinton, Mass.), Freshman, University of
Massachusetts Dartmouth
Testa led UMass Dartmouth by finishing 37th at the Plansky
Invitational at Williams College, finishing in 6-kilometer course
in 24 minutes and 53 seconds.
