NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Southern Maine junior Tyler Jasud (Rumford, Maine) paced all Little East Conference competitors at the annual University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Men’s Cross Country Invitational this afternoon, placing second overall in a field of 278 runners. Keene State College sat atop the standings with a meet-low 85 total points, finishing 30 points ahead of second place Coast Guard Academy.

The UMass Dartmouth Invitational is the longest running cross country race of its kind in New England.

Jasud completed the 5-mile course in 25 minutes and six seconds, trailing the overall winner—Teddy Vrountas (Northeastern)—by just two seconds. Southern Maine placed sixth overall in the team rankings with 178 total points.

The Owls were powered by two top-five performances to capture the team championship. Sophomore Jeff Trethewey (Merrimack, N.H.) and senior Sean Gavaghan (Monroe, Conn.) each crossed the finish line at 25 minutes and 14 seconds to place fourth and fifth, respectively. Keene State’s top-five runners covered the course in at least 25 minutes and 51 seconds to finish inside the top-40 individual listings. Sophomore Brandon Schillemat (Nelson, N.H.) (16th, 25:31), classmate Timothy Pipp (New Ipswich, N.H.) (23rd, 25:34), and junior Patrick Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) (37th, 25:51) each scored for the Owls.

The Corsairs were ranked 11th (389) in the overall team standings, while Eastern Connecticut State University (22nd, 673), Rhode Island College (28th, 842), and University of Massachusetts Boston (35th, 962) round out the Little East Conference scores.
