Jasud Leads Little East; Keene State Wins UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of
Southern Maine junior Tyler Jasud (Rumford, Maine)
paced all Little East Conference competitors at the annual
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Men’s Cross Country
Invitational this afternoon, placing second overall in a field of
278 runners. Keene State College sat atop the standings with a
meet-low 85 total points, finishing 30 points ahead of second place
Coast Guard Academy.
The UMass Dartmouth Invitational is the longest running cross
country race of its kind in New England.
Jasud completed the 5-mile course in 25 minutes and six seconds,
trailing the overall winner—Teddy Vrountas
(Northeastern)—by just two seconds. Freshman Alex
Gomes (Peabody, Mass.) also finished in the top-15 for the
Huskies, covering the course in a time of 25 minutes and 28 seconds
to post the 14th overall spot. Southern Maine placed sixth overall
in the team rankings with 178 total points.
The Owls were powered by two top-five performances to capture the
team championship. Sophomore Jeff Trethewey (Merrimack,
N.H.) and senior Sean Gavaghan (Monroe,
Conn.) each crossed the finish line at 25 minutes and 14
seconds to place fourth and fifth, respectively. Keene
State’s top-five runners covered the course in at least 25
minutes and 51 seconds to finish inside the top-40 individual
listings. Sophomore Brandon Schillemat (Nelson,
N.H.) (16th, 25:31), classmate Timothy Pipp (New
Ipswich, N.H.) (23rd, 25:34), and junior Patrick
Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) (37th, 25:51) each scored for
the Owls.
The Corsairs were ranked 11th (389) in the overall team standings,
while Eastern Connecticut State University (22nd, 673), Rhode
Island College (28th, 842), and University of Massachusetts Boston
(35th, 962) round out the Little East Conference scores.
