Joseph Earns All-America Honors In High Jump
CLAREMONT, Calif. – In his first NCAA
Division III National Championship meet freshman high jumper Carl
Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) quickly put his name on the map as one of
the top competitors in the country as he placed fourth overall in
the event to earn the program's first All-America honors under head
coach Consandria Walker.
With a leap of 6-09.00 feet, Joseph finished a mere 1.25 inches
behind the top three jumpers in Trevor James from Carthage, Tommie
Bardsley from Nebraska Wesleyan, and Jonas Elusme from Wartburg.
All three competitors recorded a height of 6-10.25 feet, with the
national championship going to James.
Currently the Beacons sit tied for 13th place overall, with
Joseph's five points. Holding a firm grip on the overall men's team
lead is Wisconsin-Oshkosh with their 21 points following the
conclusion of the men's high jump.
Joseph cleared the bar in the first five heights topping off at the
6-09.00 mark. The Brockton native did go for his career-best of
6-10.25 feet, but was unable to hit the mark despite three valiant
efforts.
As a freshman the future looks extremely bright for Joseph and the
rest of the track and field team, which posted two program best
finishes at the NCAA Division III New England Regional meet and at
the ECAC Outdoor Championship. Joseph's showing at nationals capped
off an amazing year in which he never finished worse than fifth,
which only happened once all spring. Other than that, Joseph earned
the top height in every meet he competed in including the two
regional championships as well as the Little East Conference/New
England Alliance Championship.
