NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. –
The elite New England Division III men’s and women’s outdoor track and field athletes will converge on the campus of Rhode Island College on April 26 for the 2008 Little East Conference/New England Alliance Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The 11th annual Little East Conference Championship begins at 10 a.m. at Brown University, where the Bears will host the steeplechase event before the track and field events get underway approximately an hour later at Rhode Island College.

Eastern Connecticut State University has raised the Little East Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship trophy the past five campaigns. The Warriors earned the program’s first conference trophy in 2002 with an all-time high score of 218 points. Keene State College captured the first three titles before the University of Southern Maine stopped the streak in 2001.

The University of Southern Maine boasts nine of the 10 Little East Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, including winning the past eight titles. Rhode Island College earned its lone championship in 1999 to break up the Huskies’ string of success. The University of Southern Maine set a new standard for total points (295) in the competition in 2005, putting additional 31 markers between the previous record.
