Eastern Connecticut and UMass Dartmouth Ranked In New England

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Eastern Connecticut State University and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth are ranked among the top-11 clubs in New England, according to the inaugural 2012 NCAA Men's Soccer Division III New England poll. The Warriors debuted in the regional survey at No. 4, while the Corsairs were listed at No. 11.

The NCAA Men's Soccer Division III Selection Committee will announce three regional rankings leading up to the selection of the participants in the 2012 NCAA Men's Soccer Division III Championship on Monday, November 5. Amherst College (11-0-1) sits atop the first edition of the New England regional rankings followed by Williams College (9-0-2) and Brandeis University (12-1-1).

Under the direction of Greg DeVito, Eastern Connecticut (12-0-1) are just one of six teams in the nation to sport an undefeated record. The Warriors made their debut in the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) Division III poll at No. 24 on Oct. 5. Eastern Connecticut edged fifth-ranked Wesleyan (Conn.) to boast a 1-0 mark against teams ranked in New England. The Warriors have one remaining match against a regionally-ranked opponent on Oct. 27, when Eastern Connecticut hosts UMass Dartmouth.

Henry Almeida has led the Corsairs (11-3) to its fourth consecutive season with at least 10 victories. UMass Dartmouth won six of its first seven matches to earn the No. 10 ranking in the NSCAA New England poll, sharing the ranking with MIT. The Corsairs control their own destiny in the Little East race, sporting a 5-0 mark to occupy first place. UMass Dartmouth can increase its resume with wins over its last three opponents (Keene State, Framingham State, and Eastern Connecticut).

The NCAA Men's Soccer Division III Selection Committee will announced its second regional poll on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

Eastern Connecticut returns to action this evening, when the Warriors travel to Coast Guard for a non-conference match. UMass Dartmouth will host Little East rival Keene State College at 1 p.m. on Oct. 20.
