O'Connor Named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Rhode Island College freshman goalkeeper Justin O'Connor (North Kingstown, R.I.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Anchormen to a 1-0-1 overall record.

In 200 minutes of action this past week, O'Connor recorded a pair of shutouts to post a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage. On Sept. 23, the Little East Conference Goalkeeper of the Week made six stops in a 0-0 double overtime draw at Bridgewater State. Four days later, O'Connor stopped all five shots he faced to backstop the Rhode Island College to a 1-0 Little East Conference victory at UMass Dartmouth, extending Anchormen's unbeaten streak to seven matches.

He has been spectacular between the posts during Rhode Island College's current unbeaten streak, posting a 0.49 goals against average and .900 save percentage. O'Connor has strung together three consecutive shutouts to raise his season toal to four, which ranks second best in the conference. On Sept. 16, he made a season-best seven saves in a 3-2 double overtime victory against Coast Guard.

Rhode Island College (5-3-2, 2-0 LEC) returns to action at 1 p.m. on Oct. 4, when the Anchormen host Little East Conference rival Western Connecticut State University (4-5-1, 0-1-1).
