Isaac Earns ECAC Mens Basketball Honors

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of
Southern Maine junior guard Cortez Isaac (Washington,
D.C.) was recently named the Eastern College Athletic
Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Men’s Basketball
Player of the Week after averaging 31 points per game in a pair of
Huskies’ games. Twenty-four hours earlier, he earned the same
award from the Little East Conference office.
Isaac accounted for 45.9 percent of Southern Maine’s
offensive output last week, shooting 47.8 percent (22-for-46) from
the floor and 76.7 percent (13-17) from the charity stripe. The
Washington, D.C. product has reached double figures in scoring in
each of his six games, including five with at least 20 points. On
Nov. 29, he narrowly missed a double-double against St.
Joseph’s of Maine, scoring 35 points and pulling in nine
rebounds. His 35 points marks the third time on the campaign Isaac
has eclipsed the 30-point barrier. Earlier in the week, he netted
27 points against Bates College on 11 made field goals. Isaac also
averaged 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists on the week.
He currently sits atop the Little East individual standings in
points per game (29.4) and three-pointers made (3.0 pg), while
ranking fifth in assists per game (4.4). Isaac scored a
conference-high 41 points against Johnston State College on Nov.
21, converting 15-of-24 attempts from the floor. He has been named
the top player in the Little East the past two weeks the award has
been sponsored.
Southern Maine returns to action this evening at 7:30 p.m., when
the Huskies host intra-state rival Bowdoin College in a
non-conference game at the Hill Gymnasium.
