NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Southern Maine junior guard Cortez Isaac (Washington, D.C.) was recently named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 31 points per game in a pair of Huskies’ games. Twenty-four hours earlier, he earned the same award from the Little East Conference office.

Isaac accounted for 45.9 percent of Southern Maine’s offensive output last week, shooting 47.8 percent (22-for-46) from the floor and 76.7 percent (13-17) from the charity stripe. The Washington, D.C. product has reached double figures in scoring in each of his six games, including five with at least 20 points. On Nov. 29, he narrowly missed a double-double against St. Joseph’s of Maine, scoring 35 points and pulling in nine rebounds. His 35 points marks the third time on the campaign Isaac has eclipsed the 30-point barrier. Earlier in the week, he netted 27 points against Bates College on 11 made field goals. Isaac also averaged 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists on the week.

He currently sits atop the Little East individual standings in points per game (29.4) and three-pointers made (3.0 pg), while ranking fifth in assists per game (4.4). Isaac scored a conference-high 41 points against Johnston State College on Nov. 21, converting 15-of-24 attempts from the floor. He has been named the top player in the Little East the past two weeks the award has been sponsored.

Southern Maine returns to action this evening at 7:30 p.m., when the Huskies host intra-state rival Bowdoin College in a non-conference game at the Hill Gymnasium.
