Brandon Shelton Earns Preseason All-American Honors

BEAVERTON, Ore.–Senior forward
Brandon Shelton (Cambridge, Mass.) of the
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men’s basketball team
has earned a preseason honor.
Shelton was named a preseason All-American by the Division III
News. He’s the second UMass Dartmouth player to earn
preseason national honors, joining senior forward Chris
Lapriore (Grafton, Mass.). Lapriore was honored
by Street and Smith’s Magazine prior to the
2005-06 season.
Shelton averaged 17.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season,
leading the Corsairs in both categories, and earned first team
All-Little East Conference honors.
“Because of his success last year, when he was in contention
for player of the year, I’m sure he’s been talked about
in the preseason,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach
Brian Baptiste. “He had a very impressive
year for us last year, and we are expecting some big things from
him this season. Hopefully, he improves on what he did last year,
and has a great season.”
The Corsairs went 27-4 last season, winning the Little
East postseason tournament and advancing to the semifinals of
the NCAA Sectional Championships. UMass Dartmouth will
begin its season when they host Johnson & Wales Nov.
17.
