Kathan, Bailey Earn D3Hoops.com All-Northeast Regional Honors

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -The top-two Little East
Conference men's basketball players were named to the D3Hoops.com
All-Northeast Region teams this morning after the sports
information directors in each region casted their votes. Keene
State College senior forward Tyler Kathan (Ludlow,
Vt.) was selected to the first-team, while Rhode Island
College senior guard Bobby Bailey (Fall River,
Mass.) was tabbed second-team. D3Hoops.com honored
five-student-athletes on each of their three teams.
Kathan making his third appearance on the D3Hoops.com All-Northeast
Regional team after earning second and third team honors the
previous two years. The three-time All-Little East, first-team
selection averaged a double-double in 26 games to lead the
conference circuit in scoring (18.4 ppg) and rebounding (10.2 rpg).
Kathan posted seven of his Little East-best 14 double-doubles
against conference opponents. He reached double figures in scoring
in all but two games, while scoring at least 30 points three times.
The 2009 Little East Co-Player of the Year netted a season-high 36
points against Western Connecticut.
Kathan will depart Keene, N.H. third on the all-time list in
scoring (1,805) and rebounding (939). He was also named the 2007
Little East Conference Player of the Year, and 2006 Little East
Conference Rookie of the Year.
Bailey is making his debut on the all-regional teams after earning
Little East Defensive Player of the Year and sharing the
conference's top award with Kathan. The native of Fall River, Mass.
returned from an injury for the final 23 games of the season to
help Rhode Island College post a 19-4 overall record, including a
12-1 mark in the conference circuit. A starter in 21 games, he
reached double figures in scoring in 17 contests, including a
season-high 21 points against Western Connecticut on Jan. 27.
Bailey recorded a double-double against then-nationally ranked
Amherst College, netting 17 points and pulling in 11 rebounds. He
averaged 12.1 points and 5.3 rebounds, while adding 44 assists.
Bailey is a three-time All-Little East defensive team honoree, as
well as, a three-time all-conference selection. In his three
seasons in Providence, Bailey scored 876 points, pulled in 372
rebounds, and handed out 208 assists.
