Cosenza and Rowell To Participate In NFHCA All-Star Game

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Two Little East
Conference student-athletes were recently selected to the 2008
National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III
Senior All-Star Game at Ursinus College on Nov. 23. Worcester State
College defender Kim Cosenza (Fitchburg, Mass.)
and Keene State College defender Alyssa Rowell (Queensbury,
N.Y.) each earned a spot on the 38-person roster.
Cosenza is the first Lancer in the program's history to be selected
to the national senior game. She anchored the fifth-best defense in
the conference circuit, allowing just 30 goals on the season.
Cosenza is second in the Little East in defensive saves with seven.
She made a season-high four defensive stops against Westfield State
College on Sept. 13. Cosenza also contributed to the offensive rush
with two markers for four points.
Rowell is the first field hockey student-athlete to be recognized
as the top defensive player in back-to-back years. She is also
making her third consecutive appearance on the All-Little East,
first-team. The Queensbury, N.Y. native anchored the top-ranked
defensive unit, allowing just 26 goals in 23 matches. Rowell sits
atop the conference standings in defensive saves (13), making a
season-best four stops twice. She has also contributed to the
offensive rush, ranking fifth in the Little East in assists (9),
ninth in points (31), and 10th in goals (11). Rowell netted two
goals and handed out a helper for a season-high five points against
Fitchburg State on Oct. 25. She was honored as the Little East
Conference Defensive Player of the Week in four times.
The quarterfinal round of the 2008 Little East Conference Field
Hockey Championship Tournament will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 2
p.m., when seventh-seeded Worcester State travels to second-seeded
Plymouth State University. Top-seeded Keene State will host
eighth-seeded Bridgewater State College later that evening at 5
p.m.
