Little East Sweeps ECAC Field Hockey Awards

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - The Little East Conference swept the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England weekly awards program this afternoon. Worcester State College senior forward Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, Mass.) was selected the Offensive Player of the Week, while Fitchburg State College sophomore Taylor Van Ahnen (Seekonk, Mass.) was named the Goalie of the Week. The Little East also swept the regional awards program for the week ending Sept. 14.

Rosborough paced the Lancers attack with seven points, including two game-winning goals, to lead Worcester State to a 3-0 week. The Uxbridge, Mass. product figured in both goals against Becker, scoring the decisive marker and adding an assist, while handing out a pair of helpers in a victory over Southern Maine. Rosborough capped her week with the game-winning tally against Bridgewater State to stretch the Lancers' current win streak to five. She has registered at least two points in her past five matches, raising her season total to 13.

Van Ahnen posted 26 saves and a pair of shutouts to backstop the Falcons to a 2-0 mark this past week. The sophomore netminder from Seekonk, Mass. stopped all 17 shots she faced against Framingham State to make the second highest single-game save total in the program's history and lead Fitchburg State to a 1-0 overtime victory. Earlier in the week, Van Ahnen turned aside all nine attempts against UMass Dartmouth. The opposition has not been able to solve Van Ahnen in the past 159 minutes and 37 seconds, which has lowered her goals against average to 1.15.

Worcester State (8-3) returns to action at 7 p.m. on Oct. 9, when the Lancers host New England College. Fitchburg State College (6-4) will be in action two days later, when the Falcons travel to Little East rival Brigewater State College (4-6).
