Ryan Pike and Colin Henry Named To Academic All-District 1st Team

GORHAM, Maine -- Two members of the University of Southern Maine baseball team, junior designated hitter-pitcher Collin Henry (Penobscot, Maine) and senior outfielder Ryan Pike (Saco, Maine), have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District One baseball first team for the College Division.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team was chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CoSIDA selects Academic All America (r) teams for University and College Divisions in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's track & field/cross country, men's and women's at large. Athletes named to the Academic All-District first team become eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America (r) honors.

Henry is a communication major with a 3.71 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Pike is a business major with a 3.45 cumulative GPA. To be eligible for nomination by a CoSIDA member at their institution, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 at his/her present institution, participate in at least 50 percent of the team's games, and have completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.

Named today to the All-Little East Conference second team, Henry is batting .335 (53 for 158) with 45 runs scored, a team-leading 19 doubles, two triple, five home runs and 53 RBI. He is tied for second in the conference in doubles and leads the circuit in sacrifice flies with six. He also has fashioned a 3-2 record with a 4.98 ERA on the mound. Henry was named the LEC Pitcher of the Week on April 13, and the LEC Player of the Week on May 4.

A power-hitting outfielder, Pike is batting .359 (60 for 167) with 14 doubles, one triple, a team-leading 10 home runs, 65 RBI and 21 stolen bases. In the conference, he is ranked third in RBI and fifth in home runs. Pike was the recipient of the LEC and ECAC Division III New England Player of the Week awards on April 20.
