D'Alfonso Named ECAC Player of the Week; Southern Maine Moves Up To No. 5

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -University of Southern Maine senior outfielder Anthony D'Alfonso (Westbrook, Maine) was named the Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) Division III New England Player of the Week after leading the Huskies to a 6-0 record. Southern Maine climbed three spots in the D3Baseball.com Top 25 national poll to No. 5, marking its highest ranking of the season.

D'Alfonso recorded multiple hits in all six contests this past week, batting .536 (15-for-28) with nine runs scored, two doubles, four home runs, and 19 RBI. The Westbrook, Maine native recorded 29 total bases in 28 appearances for an eye-popping 1.036 slugging percentage. In three Little East Conference games, he went a combined nine-for-14 from the plate with three homers and 11 RBI. D'Alfonso had four hits and five RBI at UMass Boston, while going five-for-eight with two homers and six RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Keene State the following afternoon. The 2008 first team All-American has hit a round tripper in each of the last three games.

D'Alfonso ranks among the national leaders in RBI per game (third, 1.95), RBI (25th, 43), and slugging percentage (0.791). He also ranks fourth in the conference circuit in batting (.448) and on-base percentage (.526). D'Alfonso is currently riding a 12-game hit streak, and has knocked in at least one run in 11 consecutive contests.

Southern Maine returns to action at 3:30 p.m. on April 16, when the Huskies host St. Joseph's College (Maine).
