Dr. Kristene Kelly came to Keene State as athletic director in June 2016.
Prior to that, she served as associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and as assistant professor and chair for the Department of Business, Accounting, Sport Management. Prior to her work at Saint Augustine’s University, Dr. Kelly served as sports information officer at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, and academic counselor at the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Kelly is a very active committee member within the NCAA, including the NCAA Woman of the Year Commitee and a former member of the NCAA Division II Track & Field Committee. She also served as a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Management Council, emcee for multiple CIAA-wide championships and banquets, and as a committee member on several CIAA championship committees. She has completed several leadership development institutes, including the NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Women (2007) and the NCAA/NACWAA Executive Institute for Administrative Advancement (2010). Dr. Kelly has also been a guest speaker on panels such as Best Practices for Improving Graduation Rates, Title IX, Work Life Balance and as a presenter for the Black Women in Sport Foundation – Next Step Women of Color Mini-Forum.
Dr. Kelly earned two bachelor’s degrees from Johnson C. Smith University in Physical Education and Communication Arts. She completed a Master of Science from the University of Tennessee in Human Performance and Sport Studies, and she earned a Doctor of Education from United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.
The St. Croix, US Virgin Islands native is married to Jonathan Kelly, Sr. and together they have one son, Jonathan, Jr. (12). She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
